Suzanne is a licensed clinical mental health counselor in North Carolina and Virginia. She has counseling experience in a variety of settings, including inpatient and outpatient substance abuse programs, group homes for teens, homeless shelters, and private practice. She also taught Psychology at the college level. She enjoys working with adults, parents, and couples, but also works with adolescents and children ages 8 and up. She has had special experience working with women, from pregnancy, post partum, and throughout all phases of life.
After earning an MBA and raising her children, Suzanne earned her Master’s degree in Psychology and Master’s in Education with emphasis in Mental Health Counseling from Western Kentucky University. She uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Reality Therapy, along with techniques adapted from Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness, and Faith-Based approaches to counseling. Suzanne completed training in TF-CBT for children, and has extensive trainings in depression, anxiety, substance use, trauma, military, and couples counseling.
Suzanne is married with a blended family, and has 2 grandsons (so far). She has lived in several states, “accidently” retracing the footsteps of her ancestor, Nathaniel Hillin, backwards to end up in North Carolina, where he first had a home. She enjoys camping and hiking, traveling, reading, cooking, art, theatre and movies, following her family’s favorite college sports teams (WVU Mountaineers, Texas A&M, North Carolina, and WKU), crochet, and crafting.
