About Melissa Morgan Cobbs, PhD., LCMHCS, LCAS, CCS

"Melissa received her Doctorate Degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of the Cumberlands, Master Degree in Mental Health Counseling from UNC Charlotte, and her Bachelor degree in Psychology and Sociology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Melissa works with adolescents (14 and above) and adults of all ages. Melissa enjoys working with an array of issues that bring individuals into counseling including: depression, anxiety, life changes, diminished self-esteem, body image concerns, mental health concerns, co-occuring disorders, substance use concerns, and family members of those struggling with substance use.

Melissa uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing as her primary theoretical orientation. Melissa also incorporates other interventions such as trauma focused, mindfulness, and other interventions appropriate for the individual client.

Melissa feels strongly that we were not made to suffer, struggle, or change alone. Sometimes we need a push, a shove, or a gentle helping hand. She sees the counseling process as an opportunity to increase self-awareness and build resilience together. Melissa enjoys helping to empower her clients by walking beside them working towards a common goal. Melissa has worked extensively with complex mental health and substance use cases, both as a counselor and program clinical supervisor. "
