About Maris Williams, LCMHCA

Maris Williams is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate who earned her master’s degree in Counselor Education from Georgia Southern University. She has over 20 years of experience helping children, youth, and adults as a mentor and in leadership positions prior to becoming a counselor. Maris specializes in helping youth and adults with anxiety, depression, identity issues, life transitions, trauma, and grief. She believes the heart of counseling is welcoming and accepting people as they are, helping them reach their personal goals, and guiding them towards more peaceful, authentic, and joy-filled lives. Maris’s counseling is based on Person-Centered Therapy which recognizes the importance of the client-therapist relationship, our innate need to share our personal stories in a safe environment, and the healing strength of being heard and validated. She incorporates interventions from Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and other modalities to develop personalized treatment plans. Maris also finds mindfulness, creativity, and humor to be essential in the therapy process. In her free time, Maris (rhymes with Paris) enjoys traveling, reading, live events (Go Duke!), and going through life’s ups and downs with her family and friends.
