"Mattie Weingarten earned her Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne University. She is a member of the Lambda Rho Chi chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, the international counseling honor society. She completed her undergraduate education at University of North Carolina at Asheville, where she graduated cum laude with degrees in Mass Communications with an emphasis in Applied Ethics and Sociology.
Some of Mattie’s areas of interest include: women’s issues, trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, depression, Bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and panic disorders. She is enthusiastic about working with diverse demographics and clients from all walks of life. She has experience in individual, group and couples therapy. Mattie’s approach to counseling is a holistic, wellness-based perspective that emphasizes treating the cause of distress rather than the symptoms. She believes in customizing her approach to therapy based on the specific needs of the client, rather than following a strict formula. She is also influenced by humanistic theories of counseling, particularly the tenets of empathy, authenticity, and treating clients with unconditional positive regard.
In her free time, Mattie enjoys fitness-based activities such as hiking, swimming, and yoga. Her hobbies include reading, traveling, cooking and volunteering with local animal rights organizations. She also values spending time with her loved ones, her fiancé, and her sweet dogs Finn and Molly."
