About Amy Sifford LCMHCS

Amy McCarthy Sifford, PhD LCMHC-S graduated from University of North Carolina -Charlotte, Department of Counselor Education and Supervision in 2010. She received her MA in Counseling from Gardner-Webb University, Boiling Springs NC in 2000 and BA in Psychology from Sacred Heart College in 1988.

Dr. Sifford has more than 30 years of diverse experience in the field of human services including social work in foster care, adolescent parenting, and intensive in home services, adoptions, and protective services and in counseling in outpatient, inpatient, and community settings. Among treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress and other trauma related disorders, phase of life issues, and social/cultural difficulties, her specialties also include Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Neuro-feedback, Trauma focused narrative, Philosophical Counseling and Seeking Safety. In addition, Dr. Sifford enjoys supervising counseling interns and counseling associates.

Dr. Sifford is a published author in the Journal of Counseling Psychology and Journal of School Counseling. She has presented at National, Regional, and Local conferences on topics including Spirituality in Counseling, Trauma Informed Care, Self-Care, Counseling Ethics, LGBTQA Advocacy, Diversity and Inclusion in Counseling, and has conducted experiential workshops on Solution Focused Counseling, Using Sand Tray and other interactive and creative strategies including collage, intuitive painting, and creative writing.

The heart of Dr. Sifford’s work is with her clients. She is inspired by the resiliency of the human spirit and believes that everyone has what they need inside of them to begin an internal journey of healing, radical self-love and acceptance, and to become re-acquainted with their strengths, hopes, and dreams.

In her leisure, Dr. Sifford enjoys concerts, festivals, gardening, painting, bird watching, creative writing, and good conversation. She especially enjoys spending time with her family, her dog Loretta and cats T.T. and Shooshigirl.
